A freshman from Lansdale, PA, Jocelyn Hickey has been playing softball for eight years. She cites the incredible softball team, the Christian aspect, and the fact that Messiah is one of a select few colleges that carry her major, Family and Consumer Science, as the main reasons she chose to come to school here. She has one older sister, Joanna, and a cat back home. Her favorite memory of playing softball was at an International Community Cup she played in two summers ago, where her team faced the Chinese National Team.

She loves The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy, John Mayer, and Dave Matthews Band. She wants to learn how to surf, an activity that coincides nicely with her dream travel destination,Australia or New Zealand. Her personal favorite meal involves any kind of pasta, garlic bread, and homemade iced tea. She considers Nicholas Sparks to be her favorite author, and she also enjoys reading books by Jodi Picoult.

Jocelyn regards Philippians 2:1-5, the team verse, to be especially meaningful to her: "If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus."

In regards to her experience at Messiah so far, Jocelyn says, "I love it! The girls are great. They're always there for you. They're very supportive and keep us up the whole game. When I am on the field, I feel like everyone's behind me, like they have my back. I don't have to worry about anything."

She went on to discuss game play, saying, "We haven't really started much; we played three games down in Florida, so that was really good." When asked about her new coaches she says, "The coaches are really great," and also says, "I feel like I have already improved since I've come here."
