Geof Weisenborn is entering his fifth season as the head coach of the Messiah Falcons' men's lacrosse team. Weisenborn is just the second head coach in the 13-year history of the men's lacrosse program.

As a player, Weisenborn started all four years as a defenseman at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. He credits his experiences as a player in helping him to become a better coach, saying, "Everything you experience as a player helps you form who you want to be. You see both the positives and the negatives and you have to figure out whether you should use these methods on your team."

After his playing career, Weisenborn spent three years as the head coach at Francis Scott Key High School in Carroll County, Maryland. He also coached at Michigan State University for two seasons, as the team's defensive coordinator in 1999 and the head coach in 2000. And in between, he served as the Messiah Falcons' defensive coordinator for three seasons (1998, 2001, and 2002).

He has been named Coach of the Year at both the high school and the college level, but Weisenborn isn't interested in awards. "Awards are a reflection of the athletes. I have a hard time taking credit for the play of my athletes."

Weisenborn's teams practice six days a week, for two to two and a half hours. Weisenborn says his favorite part of coaching is "working with the young men we have in our program, whether it's in their personal lives or their faith. Our purpose is to glorify God in all aspects. God is our creator and has blessed us with different talents and abilities. It's important that we maximize our talents to show the power and grace of God's awesome nature."

Weisenborn's personal favorite passage of the Bible is John 3:16, which reads, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only son and whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Entering the 2010 season, Weisenborn has high expectations for his players. "I believe we can win our conference and earn a bid to the NCAA tournament," he said. If the Falcons do achieve a tournament bid, it will be the third since the creation of the program 13 years ago.

When he is not coaching, Weisenborn enjoys spending time with his family, particularly two children. He has a five-year-old boy, Aiden, and a three-year-old girl, Emery. Weisenborn also likes to fish and mentioned that he recently learned fly fishing.

Besides coaching lacrosse, Weisenborn also works in the athletic department. He stated that he wants to coach at Messiah College until he retires, unless the Lord calls him to do something else with his life.
