Four months ago the Men's Club Volleyball team held tryouts. So far this season, the team is officially 1-0 with a win over Penn State.
Games have been cancelled and pushed because of the snow storms from two weeks ago. This past Saturday the team traveled to James Madison University for a tournament and play for the first time in a month. They reached the semi-finals of the tournament before being ousted by Penn State. The tournament had a field of thirteen teams. Bryce Watkins said about the weekend tournament, "Our competitive edge wasn't where it needed to be, and we didn't have the sharpness that we might have had from consistent game play."
In the fall and early winter, the team had a quite successful campaign. They started off with a third place finish out of 16 at a James Madison tournament. They continued with a fifth place finish out of 15 at the Messiah Invitational. Then in on December 5, they won the Penn State tournament in a field of 23. They then defeated Penn State at home 3-2.
On Tuesday, the team will play a match against Juniata. Though the team hasn't had much time to prove it, they are playing well. Players hope that the long layoff has not affected the play and chemistry that the team has worked on so efficiently. Earlier this year, the expectations for this season were made clear. The goals were set. Captain Mike Walker said, "Our goal is to win another conference championship and perhaps another national championship." This team has the tools to win. They have the experience and the balance of youth to win.
