Daniel Webster
Diana Ecker
Issue date: 4/30/09 Section: News
Name: Daniel Webster
Year: Senior
Major: English
Campus organization you represent: Garden Team
What dish of food do you believe best represents your personality?:
Medium-well Cheeseburger, steamed vegetables, side salad mix with raspberry vinaigrette dressing (all locally raised and produced)
Burger = I'm All-American but rough around the edges
Steamed Vegetables = I like a balanced meal, which stands for my generally healthy perspective on a wide range of issues.
Salad mix = plain at first, but when you dig into the salad you find some bitter and sweet
Locally, organically produced = picky, perhaps pretentious, and supportive of counter-cultural initiatives if it is not too compromising to the community at large
What was the last film you watched, and liked?:
Milk
What has college taught you (in one sentence)?:
To understand that there's a "we" (not wii or wee-wee) component in our mostly individualized-driven society that is capable of building nurturing relationships and executing tangible, ideal projects when working collaboratively.
Do you read books? Why?:
I wish I could answer this sarcastically, but I am an English major. I read books that touch on mostly the ordinary written in extraordinary ways.
What was the most awkward/funniest moment of your study abroad experience?:
When I was getting my mop of a hair buzzed by a British basketball teammate in Holland, he remembered halfway through my haircut that he forgot to bring his battery charger. I ended up playing basketball for the rest of a weekend with a 'do that I hope is never fashionable.
Where is the last place on Earth you would want to live?:
Dick Cheney's mansion in Wyoming
If you could speak a foreign language fluently, what would it be?:
Gaelic; I have Irish roots. I also own a soft spot for dying languages as well (Latin, Gullah, and Elven).
In your opinion, does the NRA have a legitimate fear that Obama will take our right to bear arms away?:
They were called amendments for a reason. I support hunting and target practice to relieve stress, both of which I have never tried. My brother goes to West Point, so I'll end on that.
Which is more powerful: money or words?:
In my experience as an American, money talks. In the realization of the Kingdom of God, words mean more.
Choose one. Your afterlife might depend on it. That's the Baptist in me.
What is a hipster?:
I've been told by many people that I am not hip, so I am not the expert on this constituency. But, I have a question for you: Are you judging me by the tight fit of my pants and the typewriter I own and don't use?
