The International Students Association (ISA) and MuKappa (Missionary Kids) chapter is hosting "A Cultural Infusion: an International Banquet," from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Saturday, April 4. The international banquet is an ISA/MuKappa tradition of over a decade, according to sophomore Sarah Busenitz, president of ISA/MuKappa.

The event is open to all Messiah College students - not just international students - as well as employees and alumni, says Busenitz. ISA/MuKappa wants to include the entire Messiah College community in the event.

ISA/MuKappa's vision for the event is that it will be a cultural exposition, Busenitz says, a place where students and community members from all backgrounds can display their own cultures and learn about other cultures.

The banquet will be a place where "we can get a taste of home and a taste of our friends' homes," she explained.

Messiah College Catering services will be providing a variety of international cuisine, Busenitz said. They plan to offer a Mediterranean salad, a Korean barbeque, French-style Ratatouille, and a Thai curry, among other dishes.

After the meal, ISA/MuKappa and other multicultural student organizations will be presenting the evening's entertainment.

A long-standing tradition of the dinner is the International Fashion Show, featuring traditional clothing from all over the world, Busenitz says. This year, people with related experience are working on the show to make it even more like a real fashion show, she says.

Other entertainment planned for the evening includes skits about cross-cultural experiences, a traditional African dance performance by members of the African Student Union, and a media presentation by the Asian Student Association, Busenitz says. Other multicultural student organizations may present as well.

Tickets for the banquet are on sale now at the ticket office; general admission is $10, while tickets for students and children under 12 are $7.

Three hundred spots are available, but will probably fill quickly, Busenitz predicts. Throughout the long history of this tradition, last year was the only one when the event was not sold out, as it was scheduled for the same night as Spring Fling.
